One of the Marina's most talked-about development proposals has reached another important stage in the planning process.San Francisco Planning recently determined that the proposed redevelopment of the Safeway site at 15 Marina Boulevard qualifies for California's AB 2011 housing streamlining process. The latest plans call for 848 homes, including 86 affordable units, along with a new Safeway at the base of two residential buildings. The revised proposal also increases the number of homes while reducing the height of the originally proposed towers. The project continues to generate significant discussion among Marina residents, with ongoing conversations surrounding neighborhood character, density, traffic, environmental concerns, and the future of the site. Another major project quietly moving forward is the Marina Improvement and Remediation Project, which focuses on the East Harbor and Gashouse Cove area. Construction is currently anticipated to begin in 2027 following the completion of additional permitting and project preparation. Heritage on the Marina is moving forward with plans to preserve its historic Julia Morgan-designed building while reimagining the surrounding campus. The proposal would expand the senior living community from 76 to 122 residences and introduce a public Julia Morgan Historic Center intended to celebrate the architectural legacy of one of California's most influential architects.
