Future Forward is grounded in history while looking boldly ahead. 'Hearts Suite' is an excerpt from founder Michael Smuin's masterpiece set to the songs of Edith Piaf. Based on a concept and scenario written by Raquel Bitton and originally choreographed for San Francisco Ballet in 1986, the suite has not been seen since 2015. Explore the creative process with Smuin Contemporary Ballet Artistic Director Amy Seiwert as she takes you on the journey of bringing her recent world premiere to life. Set to the music of Lucy Dacus, this character-driven work is Seiwert's 15th ballet for Smuin (debuting at the Cowell Theater April 17-26). The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon kicks off with a 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island into the chilly waters of the San Francisco Bay. From there, athletes take on an 18-mile bike ride along the Great Highway and through Golden Gate Park, before finishing strong with an 8-mile run through the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
